After Umrao Jaan (2006), J P Dutta was working on his next; an action thriller with romantic undertones. The untitled film was to launch his daughter Nidhi Dutta. He is married to yesteryear beautiful actress, Bindiya Goswami.

But for now, the film has been put on the backburner.

The film, backed by Reliance BIG movies, has been affected by the recession and they don't consider the film commercially viable anymore.

A source in the industry reveals, "Dutta has been working hard on the film which he was planning to start sometime next year. This new film is said to be out of his comfort (war) zone. Reliance signed a contract with the maker despite the dismal performance of his last release and gave the director a free hand with the script and was even co-producing the venture jointly. All was going well for the maker till three weeks back when the global recession made its way to India, affecting every sector of the economy, including the film industry."

The source adds, "The maker was getting ready to leave for the recce of the film with his trusted assistants in the first week of November, when he received a letter from co-producers Reliance stating that due the financial crisis in the industry, the movie and all its proceedings have been halted for the time being and will only resume when the situation in the market corrects itself. A similar kind of letter has been sent by the corporate house to their under production films which have not yet mounted sets as of now."

While waiting for her debut, Nidhi still assist her papa as assitant director.
